Happy Friday!
It’s taken me a couple of weeks to come to terms with sharing about Susan’s death, but it would be unfair not to talk about her. So many of you, my readers, have become friends, and while we haven’t seen each other face to face, you are dear to my heart. Susan Nixon, whom I hadn’t met in person, contacted me each week, and I’d know when I missed sending out a weekly email because she would write to see if everything was okay.
Susan championed my books and always encouraged me, reminding me of the calling as a writer that I shouldn’t take lightly. She was a happy person who loved her family and friends so much, and more importantly, she loved and served God regardless of how she was feeling in her final weeks. Her love for Christ was evident in her emails, and for that alone, I’m glad that she’s in the loving arms of the Father and won’t be suffering anymore.
As many have been affected by the beastly disease, Susan battled cancer for five years and was a fighter until the end. You may wonder how I learned about her death? This is the hardest part that has my heart aching and my chest tight as I write. While she was so ill in the final days, she wrote me a farewell note, a card saying I was her favorite author and besides her Bible, my books got her through those grueling days. (She always told me this and urged me to keep writing…) The family member who sent me the card is the one who told me about her death, and fortunately, she shared a link for the Zoom funeral service.
Death is inevitable but it leaves a hole for the loved ones left behind. It’s comforting to know that we can always lean on Him, to fill us with His strength daily.
Please pray for Susan’s family.
